Teej Festival in Punjab | Sadda Punjab
Teej is a famous festival of Punjab which was celebrated by married girls by going to their maternal home in the month of Sawan together with their friends. All the girls used to gather at each other’s house and everyone who wears Teej. But now neither girls go to their maternal home nor Teej is celebrated under the trees, because after marrying the village, she has settled in the city, and according to the customs here.
But know Teej is celebrated in the form of kitty groups of women in the city who organize Teej events in restaurant clubs. Women are charged money to participate in this. In today’s Teej, the only pretense remains, belongingness and love have ended.
No more omen on Teej
In the olden times, there was a lot of enthusiasm among the married girls as soon as the month of Sawan started. She was given an omen from her in-laws’ house. In which new clothes, makeup items, and other things which are given on Karva Chauth were completely identical. But now this custom is rarely seen. Women go to the market and buy everything themselves to wear.
The custom of the traditional dress has changed – There are costumes and dishes related to all the festivals in India. Similarly, the traditional dress to wear in Teej is a Punjabi suit, a Punjabi jutti, and a paranda on the feet. But nowadays Teej is being celebrated in hotels Only a small number of women wear these things, otherwise most of the women celebrate Teej by wearing western dress.
