Why Deepawali Is Celebrated In Sikhism In English
Jahangir was horrified in view of the growing influence of Guru Guru Hargobind Singh Ji and imprisoned him in Gwalior fort and 52 other Hindu kings were also imprisoned in that fort.
It is said that when Guru Hargobind Singh ji was taken captive and brought to that imprisonment, all the Hindu kings respected him a lot.
After keeping Guru Hargobind Singh Ji in that prison for a few years, Jahangir announced his release,(Importance of Deepawali’s in Sikhism) but Guru Hargobind Singh Ji, stipulated that all the 52 Hindu kings should be freed along with him. Jahangir’s finally accepted Guru Hargobind Singh Ji condition and everyone was freed on Diwali.
Guru Hargobind Singh Ji came to the Golden Temple in Amritsar district where the entire temple was decorated with Diya’s to commemorate his arrival. After that this day came to be known as The Day of Release of Prisoners. Every year, the Sikh community celebrates this day with (Diwali 2021) great fanfare as the liberation of Guru Hargobind Singh ji.
Importance of Deepawali’s in Sikhism
The Golden Temple in Amritsar is decorated with flowers on this day. On Diwali, kirtan is continuously performed in the Golden Temple and there is also a continuous recitation of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The Sikh community lights up their homes and Mohalla’s on this day.
Apart from the release of Guru Hargobind Singh ji from imprisonment, there are other incidents that took place on this day with the Sikh community, such as:
1.Guru Amar Das ji, the Third Guru of Sikhism, had constructed a wall of 84 steps in Goindwal on this day and called upon the Sikh community to on a Baisakhi day and Diwali day give the message of mutual brotherhood by bathing in this.
2.With this, Amritsar City was established in 1577 AD.
